What the G1028Z was
The G1028Z was a 1-1/2 HP bag-type dust collector, a portable single-stage unit that draws chips and dust through the impeller into a bag. It was a common first collector for a home shop.
Is it really discontinued?
Yes. Grizzly still has a page for the G1028Z on grizzly.com, but the page says the item is discontinued and no longer available for sale. Grizzly lists the G1028Z as discontinued. The G1028Z2 uses the same design and is current, and the G0860 is the step up if you want a cyclone.

Manuals and parts for a discontinued model
Grizzly generally leaves the manual and parts diagrams for discontinued models on the product page, and many common wear parts stay available for years after a model leaves the catalog. That is worth checking before you buy a used G1028Z: open the G1028Z page on grizzly.com, download the manual and the parts list, and compare the parts you are likely to need (belts, brushes, switches, bearings) against what is still listed. The G1028Z2 shares the same design, so many common parts, such as bags and the impeller, are likely to be compatible; confirm on the parts list.
Used-market buying checklist
A used bag collector is a simple machine and there are only a few things that go wrong.
- Check the impeller for balance, dents and wear; spin it by hand for rubbing.
- Listen to the motor for bearing noise and check that it starts reliably.
- Inspect the bags for tears, since torn bags are a health problem in a shop.
- Check the housing and the seals for leaks.
- Check the casters and the frame.
- Confirm the voltage and the plug.
- Check the inlet and the Y fitting for cracks.
- Plan to add a better filter bag or a canister upgrade if you can.
If you would rather buy new
The Grizzly button on the card above goes to the current model, and the Amazon button below goes to the closest Amazon-sold machine in the same class. They are different machines, so compare the specification sheets before treating them as equivalents. If you want a bag collector delivered through Amazon, the nearest option is a smaller bag collector from another brand.
