Grizzly G0738 Hanging Air Filter, 3-SpeedA 34 lb hanging unit, 20 W x 17 D x 10 H in, with a 1, 2 or 4 hour timer, an IR remote and hanging chains included.
Who it is for
- A small shop or garage where airborne fine dust hangs after sanding and sawing.
- Anyone who wants to clean the air after a work session.
- A shop that already has a collector and wants fine dust captured that escapes the tools.
- People who want a plug-in 120V unit with a remote.
Who should skip it
- Someone who expects it to replace tool collection. An air filter does not capture dust at the source.
- Anyone who needs HEPA-level filtration; Grizzly lists a 1 micron inner filter and no HEPA option for this model.
- Large shops; 409 CFM is a small-room figure.

What the spec sheet does not tell you
Air changes per hour is the number to use. Divide the airflow by the room volume. A 409 CFM unit in a 20 by 20 by 8 ft room moves the room volume roughly every eight minutes at its top speed, which is useful in a small space and weak in a large one. The air filtration guide covers the arithmetic and larger units.
The timer is better than it sounds. Fine dust stays airborne long after a cut, so setting a 2 or 4 hour timer when you leave lets the filter clean the room while you are away. The IR remote handles speed and timer without a ladder.
Both filters are consumables. The 5 micron outer filter catches the big stuff and protects the 1 micron inner filter, and a clogged filter loses airflow. Budget for replacements and check them regularly.
At 34 lb, the unit must hang from a solid joist, not drywall. Use appropriate anchors and the supplied chains. Think about where the exhaust blows: placing it across the room from the dust source produces better mixing than putting it next to the sander.
Placement changes results more than most buyers expect. A filter hung in a corner circulates mostly the air around it, while one near the center of the ceiling pulls the whole room into a loop. If your shop has a collector, set the air filter to run during sanding and for a couple of hours after, and keep doors closed so the same air is cleaned repeatedly. Replace the filters on a schedule that matches your dust load, because a loaded filter quietly drops the airflow below the printed numbers.
The honest weakness
The honest weakness is the absence of a HEPA option. The 1 micron inner filter is good for a woodshop but does not capture the finest fraction, which matters for health. The three speeds top out at 409 CFM, so a big shop needs a larger unit or several. Treat an air filter as a supplement to a respirator and a dust collector, not a replacement.
Grizzly direct vs Amazon
The Grizzly page lists the current G0738 specifications. The unit ships easily at 34 lb, and the delivery is less demanding than for floor machines.
The closest Amazon-sold alternative is a 3-speed hanging air filter in the same airflow range. Compare filter micron ratings, CFM and remote features. Pick the Grizzly for its direct support; pick the Amazon alternative if you want a same-class unit shipped by Amazon.
WEN 3410 3-Speed Remote-Controlled Air Filtration System (300/350/400 CFM)This is the nearest match we could find on Amazon in the same class. It is a different machine from the Grizzly, so compare the spec sheets side by side rather than assuming they are equivalent.
Alternatives worth considering
WEN 3410 3-Speed Remote-Controlled Air Filtration System (300/350/400 CFM)A 3-speed remote-controlled air filtration system rated at 300, 350 and 400 CFM with a 1 micron inner filter and a 5 micron pre-filter.
Grizzly G0860 1-1/2 HP Portable Cyclone Dust CollectorThe G0860 cyclone captures dust at the machine, which an air filter cannot do.

Common questions
How big a room can the G0738 handle?
It is a small-shop unit. At 409 CFM, a room around 400 sq ft is a reasonable upper limit.
Does the G0738 have a HEPA filter?
No. Grizzly lists a 5 micron outer and a 1 micron inner filter.
Does it have a remote?
Yes. It has an IR remote and a 1, 2 or 4 hour timer.
Does an air filter replace dust collection?
No. It cleans the air after dust is airborne; a collector captures it at the machine.
